# What is the difference between a Selfie and a Liveness Check in the ID Verification process?
In the Autohost ID Verification process, there are two different methods for verifying a user's identity through facial recognition: Selfie and Liveness Check. Here's how they differ:
1. Selfie:
- Part of the standard ID Verification process
- Requires users to simply upload a photo of themselves
- Integrated into the ID Verification flow along with ID Upload
2. Liveness Check:
- An alternative method to the standard Selfie
- Requires users to take a picture of themselves imitating a specific random facial expression
1. - Designed to add an extra layer of security to prevent fraud
Key Differences:
- Complexity: Selfie is a simple photo upload, while Liveness Check requires following specific instructions.
- Security: Liveness Check provides enhanced security by verifying that the person is present and responding to prompts in real-time.
- Fraud Prevention: Liveness Check helps prevent the use of stolen identities or social media photos for verification.
Important Notes:
- Liveness Check can be more challenging for guests to complete correctly, potentially leading to frustration if they don't follow the instructions precisely.
- Property managers can choose which method to use based on their security needs and guest experience preferences.
To adjust these settings:
1. Go to Guest Portal \> ID verification in your Autohost dashboard.
2. Enable or disable the Liveness Check feature as needed.
Remember, while Liveness Check offers increased security, it's essential to balance this with guest convenience and satisfaction.
